Once you decide on your pledge amount, you will likely find that fulfilling your pledge while continuing your regular contributions to the general fund will mean making some sacrifices. We offer the following creative ideas to help you give over and above your normal giving to fulfill your pledge.
1. Practice priority budgeting by postponing a planned expenditure such as a new car, vacation, home remodeling or other major purchase. A family at one church gave up cable television for three years to fulfill their pledge.
2. Redirect present expenditures that will end during the next three years such as loans or college tuition by committing the same amount to the campaign as you were paying.
3. Increase giving with increased income instead of giving into the temptation to increase lifestyle.
4. Give from your excess. A couple at one church decided the needs of their church were greater than their need for the lake cabin they had saved for.
5. Commit unexpected cash such as a bonus or inheritance.
Sacrifice your extra time and resources. Some people have extra time they would be willing to dedicate at a part-time job to be able to give more to the church.
7. Donate appreciated assets such as investment securities or real estate. |
