Homeless Ministry

Inner City Ministries (Inner City People of Purpose)

Mel and Linda Smith have had a heart for missions for over 20 years. They often housed missionaries while living in New York. Thirteen years ago they received God’s calling to leave New York and begin a ministry in Wilmington, N.C. Mel was working with the Good Shepherd House when he and Linda received the opportunity to go to Cebu, Philippines as missionaries. They were there for a year when God called them back to Wilmington to begin a ministry with the homeless.

Knowing the homeless would usually not step foot in church they took their ministry to the streets. With a truck, a grill, and a sermon they began their ministry in front of the railroad museum in downtown Wilmington.

For the past four years (never missing a Sunday) the ministry has grown from 15 people to over 150 people today. Mel brings the message of Jesus Christ, followed up with a hot meal served by smiling encouraging servants of God.

Behind the scenes, Mel also continues his ministry by helping the homeless get off the streets and find God’s will and purpose for their lives.

Come join us each 2nd Sunday of the month from 12:00 (setup) to 2:00. Call Kenny and Susan Smith at 799-0322 for details. Families with older children welcome.
