WHAT WE BELIEVE

We Believe . . .

  • …the Bible is God’s written revelation to man.  It is verbally inspired in every word, and absolutely inerrant in the original documents.  We affirm the infallibility, sufficiency, and authority of Scripture.  (Psalm 119:89; John 1:1; John 1:1-4; John 1:14; Galatians 1:12; Galatians 1:12; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
  • …that there is but one Living and true God, an infinite, all-knowing Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence, eternally existing in three Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — each equally deserving worship and obedience.  (Exodus 34:6; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 11:7-9; Psalm 90:2; Psalm 147:5; Jeremiah 10:10; John 4:24; Revelation 4:8).

  • …in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.  (Luke 1:27-31; John 1:14; Romans 9:5; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Timothy 2:5).
  • …that the salvation of man, who is sinful and lost, is accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God.  This salvation is marked when the repentant sinner responds in faith to the grace of God, and this also by the work of the Holy Spirit.  The basis of this salvation is the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, the merit of His shed blood, and not on the basis of human merit or works.  All the redeemed are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.  (John 1:12; Romans 5:18; 1 Corinthians 1:9; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 2:3; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Thessalonians 1:6; Hebrews 2:17; Hebrews 9:28).
  • …in the Spirit-filled life.  As the supernatural Agent in regeneration, the Holy Spirit baptizes all believers at the moment of salvation.  The Holy Spirit also indwells, sanctifies, instructs, empowers for service, and seals the believer for the day of redemption.  (Romans 8:9-12; Ephesians 1:13; 2 Corinthians 5:5; Titus 3:5-6).
  • …in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; the saved unto the resurrection of life and the unsaved unto the resurrection of damnation.  (Matthew 10:32-33; Matthew 13:30; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 20:15).
  • …that all who put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one unified spiritual Body, the Church, of which Christ is the head.  The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by building its members up in the faith, by instruction of the Word of God, by fellowship with one another, by the keeping of ordinances prescribed in the Scriptures, and by proclaiming the Gospel to the world.  (Ephesians 2:13-19; Ephesians 3:17-19; Ephesians 4:4-13)

We Also Affirm The Five Solas . . .

SOLA SCRIPTURA (Scripture Alone)

  • We reaffirm the inerrant Scripture to be the sole source of written divine revelation, which alone can bind the conscience.  The Bible alone teaches all that is necessary for our salvation from sin and is the standard by which all Christian behavior must be measured.
  • We deny that any creed, council, or individual may bind a Christian’s conscience, that the Holy Spirit speaks independently of or contrary to what is set forth in the Bible, or that personal spiritual experience can ever be a vehicle of revelation.

SOLUS CHRISTUS (Christ Alone)

  • We reaffirm that our salvation is accomplished by the mediatorial work of the historical Christ alone.  His sinless life and substitutionary atonement alone are sufficient for our justification and reconciliation to the Father.
  • We deny that the gospel is preached if Christ’s substitutionary work is not declared and faith in Christ and His work is not solicited.

SOLA GRATIA (Grace Alone)

  • We reaffirm that in salvation we are rescued from God’s wrath by His grace alone.  It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that brings us to Christ by releasing us from bondage to sin and raising us from spiritual death to spiritual life.
  • We deny that salvation is in any sense a human work.  Human methods, techniques or strategies by themselves cannot accomplish this transformation.  Faith is not produced by our unregenerate human nature.

SOLA FIDE (Faith Alone)

  • We reaffirm that justification is by grace alone through faith alone because of Christ alone.  In justification, Christ’s righteousness is imputed to us as the only possible satisfaction of God’s perfect justice.
  • We deny that justification rests on any merit to be found in us, or upon the grounds of an infusion of Christ’s righteousness in us, or that an institution claiming to be a church that denies or condemns sola fide can be recognized as a legitimate church.

SOLI DEO GLORIA (For God’s Glory Alone)

  • We reaffirm that because salvation is of God and has been accomplished by God, it is for God’s glory and that we must glorify Him always.  We must live our entire lives before the face of God, under the authority of God, and for His glory alone.
  • We deny that we can properly glorify God if our worship is confused with entertainment, if we neglect either the Law or Gospel in our preaching, or if self-improvement, self-esteem, or self-fulfillment are allowed to become alternatives to the Gospel.
